A senior dog called Jessie, who was cruelly tied to a pole and abandoned outside an airport, has found a safe foster home in time for Christmas.
Pekingese cross Jessie, believed to be about 11, was found late at night outside Dublin Airport, in Ireland, on December 11. Thankfully, the senior pooch was OK and the charity My Lovely Horse Rescue (MLHR), which also cares for dogs, cats and other animals, took her into their care.
"It's not entirely clear why Jessie was left at the airport. We can only guess her owners didn't have the correct paperwork in place to allow her to board and perhaps they themselves were in a very difficult position and left with little to no choice," MLHR trustee Jenny Spring told Newsweek.

"We just know that Jessie was very lucky to have been spotted by someone who knew what to do and who to contact especially as it was late in the night when she was found.
"Thankfully we operate out of normal working hours and one of our volunteers was contacted and was able to direct Jessie's finder as to what were the best steps to take to get Jessie safe. A massive thank you to the Dublin Airport police as well who were amazing."
Newsweek has contacted the Dublin Airport press office for comment via email.
Jessie has since gone to a foster home with a veterinary nurse who has experience with older dogs as her "overall condition is not too good," and she will hopefully be adopted in the future.
Following her rescue, Jessie was found to have a type of mouth deformity and her hind legs are not working as well as they should be, although this could be due to her age.
"Given Jessie's age, we need to be really careful with any operations she may need so we will work closely with her foster Mom and the vets to make sure she gets the best of care that will allow her to live a happy, comfortable pain-free life," Spring continued.
The charity said there are several things that people can do if they find themselves having to surrender their pet, which include:
- Once you know your circumstances are changing contact a rescue immediately, don't leave it until the week before you're leaving.
- Have your pet vaccinated, chipped, and neutered. A responsible rescue will not rehome an unneutered dog/cat and if not neutered he/she could fall into the wrong hands.
- Provide the rescue with as much information as you can about your pet's likes and dislikes.
- Provide the rescue with nice pictures of your pet.
- Never advertise your pet for free on social media.
