Jonathan Murray is an American television producer, best known for co-creating MTV’s The Real World, Road Rules, and Oxygen Network’s The Bad Girls Club. Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, in 1955, Murray founded Bunim-Murray Productions with Mary-Ellis Bunim. The two were brought together by agent Mark Itkin of the William Morris Agency to develop a scripted soap opera for MTV. When the idea was too expensive, they decided to try an unscripted soap, and The Real World was born.

Bunim/Murray Productions has spearheaded the reality television genre, producing numerous other reality programs over the years, including Road Rules, Love Cruise, Making the Band, Real World/Road Rules Challenge, The Real Cancun, Starting Over, The Simple Life, Project Runway, and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, and Khloe and Lamar.

Murray and Bunim were inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2012. His niece, Hailey Murray, appeared on the daytime reality series Starting Over during the show’s first season along with her mother, Lynnell.
